About the position
Assistant Teaching Professor (Applied Mathematics) AY 2027-28
Announcement of Vacancy
Campus: Polytechnic campus
Job # 193123
Position Description
The Polytechnic Science and Mathematics Faculty in the School of Applied Sciences and Arts (College of Integrative Sciences and Arts, Arizona State University) invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor in Applied Mathematics, beginning in the 2027-2028 academic year. You’ll join a close-knit, collaborative faculty that works across disciplines and puts students first, designing learning experiences that are hands-on, engaging, and built around student success. If you love teaching, enjoy working alongside colleagues from other fields, and want your work in the classroom to be valued and supported, we want to meet you.
As an Assistant Teaching Professor, you’ll teach undergraduate mathematics courses, mostly in person on our Polytechnic campus. Depending on program needs and your own expertise, your courses may include College Algebra, Precalculus, Calculus, and other courses that support Polytechnic majors. You’ll have the chance to shape your classes by developing syllabi, instructional materials, and assessments, and by evaluating student learning. You’ll also keep refining your teaching methods to help students succeed. Beyond the classroom, you’ll contribute your voice and leadership to your program, school, college, university, and profession.
In addition to teaching, you’ll coordinate with colleagues on multi-section courses and help shape the curriculum for our mathematics service courses and the applied mathematics degree program. You’ll work closely with fellow mathematics faculty on curriculum, course planning, and implementation, and you’ll collaborate with colleagues in biology, chemistry, and physics to advance CISA’s commitment to excellence in undergraduate education.
The typical teaching load is four undergraduate courses per semester. Occasional online or hybrid assignments may come up, though they aren’t guaranteed. Your Faculty Head will build your schedule and assignments around program needs, enrollment demand, and your expertise.
This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure-eligible position located on the Polytechnic campus, where you’ll be part of the day-to-day life of the community. The appointment is renewable on an academic-year basis, contingent on satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and the needs of the university. This position is based on the Polytechnic Campus and requires your physical presence at that location.
The School of Applied Sciences and Arts (SASA), part of ASU’s College of Integrative Sciences and Arts, advances experiential and STEM-based learning, with a focus on applied sciences and mathematics, interdisciplinary humanities and social sciences. Programs include undergraduate degrees in applied biological sciences with pre-veterinary medicine and pre-dental concentrations — offered at just a handful of universities across the country — as well as a sustainable horticulture concentration. Other degrees include interdisciplinary studies, communication, and STS (science, technology and society). SASA students also pursue graduate work in applied biology, liberal studies and narrative studies. SASA’s more than 170 faculty lay the foundation for 22,000+ ASU students pursuing over 4,000 majors at the Polytechnic and Downtown campuses, as well as English composition for more than 30,000 ASU online students.
The school is also the home of the Latinx Oral History Lab and one of the nation’s first degrees in military and
veterans studies. SASA is a partner in advancing knowledge and technology while promoting a sustainable future
for the culture, animals, people, land, and environment of the East Valley and beyond.
