to join its “Magnet Electrical Systems” group (SCM-MES). In this role, you will work as a specialist for our superconducting FAIR magnet and busbar systems, as well as their associated electronic protection equipment. The project involves verification and validation of these components and integrating them into the main FAIR machines - the SIS100 and the Super-FRS – as well as into our magnet test facilities. Your ability to manage complex technical processes, combined with your hands-on experience in testing, installation and commissioning will be instrumental to the successful realization of our demanding accelerator infrastructure.

Your tasks:

  • Electrical quality assurance and maintaining test operation for superconducting FAIR modules.
  • Scientific analyses of superconducting FAIR components and current leads, including device characterization, troubleshooting and optimization.
  • Technical coordination of the implementation and commissioning of the “FAIR Quench Detection System” as well as providing operational guidance to the FAIR accelerator control center.
  • Development of innovative test methods for electrical integrity in superconducting magnet circuits as well as conceptual design of new magnet protection systems.

Your skills:

  • Doctoral degree (Ph.D.), ideally in Electrical Engineering, Accelerator Engineering or comparable qualification.
  • Profound knowledge in the field of superconducting magnets technology as well as protection systems for superconducting components.
  • Expertise in simulation and calculation of characteristic parameters for magnet protection as well as quench data analysis.
  • Experience in electrical testing methods, sensor technology, analog/digital signal processing, data acquisition via Ethernet as well as data synchronization in distributed systems.
  • Know-how in EMC-compliant assembly of electrical systems is a plus.
  • Programming skills with Python and C/C++.
  • Familiarity with MS-Windows and Linux operating systems as well as MS-Office applications.
  • Excellent written and spoken English as well as German skills.
  • Independent cooperative working style, social skills, sense of responsibility and team spirit.
