About the position
Johns Hopkins, founded in 1876, is America's first research
university and home to nine world-class academic divisions working
together as one university.
We are seeking a Sr. Research Data Analyst who will build
complex data models and conduct complex data analysis in support of
research projects, programs, and/or studies. The Sr. Research Data
Analyst is responsible for coordination of data and data analysis
activities across multiple studies.
We are seeking an experienced Sr. Research Data Analyst to
support health economics and health services research projects led
by faculty in the Department of Health Policy and Management. The
Sr. Research Data Analyst would contribute to a range of
policy-relevant projects examining the health of older adults,
mental health and substance use, value in the Medicare and Medicaid
programs, health care affordability, and improving the value and
quality of health care delivery. This is an ideal role for people
hoping to apply for a PhD in health economics or health services
research, or people with significant experience and interest in
applied academic research.
The Sr. Research Data Analyst will primarily be responsible for
constructing analytic datasets from large administrative databases
including health insurance claims, electronic health records
(EHRs), employment records, and population survey data. The
position would involve developing analytic datasets, conducting
data management and quality assessment, and applying statistical
and econometric methods to support faculty-led research. In
addition, the Sr. Research Data Analyst may also work with more
unstructured data sources such as clinical notes or business
ownership records.
Candidates with experience implementing econometric research
designs—including instrumental variables and
difference-in-differences—as well as regression modeling are
especially encouraged to apply. The position provides opportunities
to contribute intellectually to research projects and, when
contributions warrant, to serve as a coauthor on resulting
manuscripts.

individuals or organizations, geocoding of addresses.
- Conduct data quality assessments and exploratory analyses using
descriptive statistics, visualizations, and other diagnostic
methods.

guidance, including regression and quasi-experimental research
designs such as instrumental variables and
difference-in-differences.
